We are so blessed by each family that graces our Solid Rock Christian Academy community. They are the heartbeat of our school – they keep us going by their prayers, support, and volunteer help! Today we want to highlight the Bork family, so you can get to know another wonderful family that makes up our community.

1. Tell us a little about your family.

We are the Bork family! We (Lee and Rhoda) have been married for 11 years. Lee is a data analyst at State Farm, where he has worked for 18 years. Rhoda has worked part-time at Restmor Nursing Home for 3 years. We lived in Bloomington until 2023 then moved to rural Deer Creek. We attend and serve at Grace Church in Morton. We have two wonderful children, Iris, who is 8 years old and entering 3rd grade, and Zeke, who is 4 and in preschool. We also have two dogs—Ruby and Millie and an Andalusian horse named Jury. As a family, we love traveling, riding horses, hiking, and making memories together. Above all, our desire is to raise our children to know, love, and follow Jesus.

2. Why did your family choose Solid Rock? 

When Iris was headed to preschool in 2021, we spent a lot of time praying and discussing what we wanted our children’s education to look like. We decided it was important for them to attend a Christian school where they would be taught from a biblical worldview every day. As parents, we know we can’t take things to heaven with us, but we can take our kids, and we care most about their souls and their relationship with Jesus Christ. We wanted a school that would partner with us in pointing them to God’s truth, encouraging them to grow in their faith, and preparing them to stand firm in a world that often teaches conflicting values. That’s exactly what we found at Solid Rock.

3. What is your favorite part or what excites you most about Solid Rock? 

One of the moments that impacted us the most was attending the Spring Concert. Looking around the room, we saw families representing many different churches, yet everyone was united in worshiping Jesus together. There was something incredibly special about seeing children boldly sing praises to the Lord with joy and confidence. It reminded us that Solid Rock is about so much more than academics—it’s helping raise a generation of children who know and love Christ. Soild Rock partners with parents raising the next generation to impact God’s Kingdom. Seeing that unity around Jesus is what excites us most about being part of the Solid Rock family.

4. What is your child’s favorite part of school?

Iris loves seeing her friends each day, learning new things, and having teachers who truly care about her. She especially loves hands-on activities and learning in a way that doesn’t involve staring at a screen all day, and being part of a school where talking about Jesus is part of everyday life.

5. What is a character trait you want to instill in your children?

More than anything, we want our children to love the Lord with all their hearts. We also hope they grow to be people of integrity, humility, perseverance, kindness, and compassion—people who faithfully serve Jesus and love others well.

6. What would be a perfect family day for your family? 

A perfect family day for us would be one where everyone gets to do their favorite thing without any whining, arguing, or mysterious disappearing shoes. Iris would be thrilled to play piano, do gymnastics, and ride horses with Mom. Zeke would be in his element driving his Power Wheels Jeep, digging in the sandbox, and dramatically demolishing whatever Magnatiles Iris has carefully built. Rhoda has also been making Lee play pickleball lately, which has become a surprisingly competitive for one of them. Lee would happily add a Cardinals baseball game, a run, or a workout with friends to the mix. Of course, no perfect day would be complete without game night—especially if it includes laughing around the table, eating Indian food, and making memories together.

7. What is your advice to families that are on the fence about sending their child to Solid Rock?

One thing to keep in mind is that the smaller class sizes mean spots fill up quickly, so if you think Solid Rock might be the right fit, it’s a good idea to get on the list early—if you’ve got a newborn, you might as well get on the list now! The investment in a biblical education and a strong partnership between school and family is something that will benefit your children for years to come.
