Today we want to highlight another amazing family at Solid Rock Christian Academy – Luke & Heidi Knapp! They have been a part of our community for several years now, and add so much to our school. We hope you love getting to know them!

1. Tell us a little about your family.

We are the Knapp family, made up of Luke and Heidi, Bridget (16), Carter (15), Alison (12), Abree (9), Deacon (7), and Cohen (5). Luke and I have been married for 19 years, and pretty early on in our relationship we realized we had a mutual heart for foster care and adoption. That led us to adopt Abree, Deacon, and Cohen, as well as serve as a host family with Safe Families for 7 years. We live in Morton, where our older three kids attend public high school and Jr High, and our younger three kids attend Solid Rock. We attend Covenant Community Church in Chillicothe where Luke serves as elder and I serve as the children’s ministry director.

2. Why did your family choose Solid Rock? 

We originally chose Solid Rock for educational purposes when Abree was in first grade, looking for smaller class sizes and less chaos than we experienced in public school. It didn’t take very long for us to realize that the spiritual benefits far outweighed any educational benefits. She came home wanting to pray at bedtime, volunteering to pray at school, and we were so encouraged that the Biblical values we taught at home were being taught and reinforced at school as well. When it came time for the younger boys to start kindergarten it was an easy decision to start them at Solid Rock also.

3. What is your favorite part or what excites you most about Solid Rock? 

I love the parent involvement, and that I know all the parents of my kid’s classmates and friends. One subject that I think is really fun and unique is FCS. My kids have learned to sew, follow recipes and make some basic food, knife skills, and basic gardening. 

4. What is your child’s favorite part of school?

Abree says her favorite subject in school is Bible, and Deacon (as a typical young boy) says his is recess, but he enjoys reading also. 

5. What is a character trait you want to instill in your children?

A daily question that we ask our kids is “what is your purpose?”. The answer being “to please God by loving others and obeying Him.” We want our kids to know why they are here, who’s they are, and for them to live that out in everyday life.

6. What would be a perfect family day for your family? 

We love going to Florida, so a perfect day would probably involve going to a local playground, getting coffee, spending some time at the beach and pool, and going out for dinner and ice cream at some of our favorite places.

7. What is your advice to families that are on the fence about sending their child to Solid Rock?

Solid Rock has been a great blessing to our family! If someone is on the fence, I would encourage them not to underestimate the beauty of experiencing your kids getting an education that’s built on the foundation of God’s word, and the fruit that can come from that.
