Mohr Spotlight

We were able to hear from another of our Solid Rock families – the Mohr’s! We love having Josh and Anna and their kids a part of our community. You can learn more about them below!

Tell us a little about your family!

Joshua and I were both born and raised in Morton. We both attended Morton High school and played soccer. I (Anna) always joke that Joshua never knew who I was in high school since I didn’t start until my junior year. Prior to that I lived in England for three years as a missionary kid at the Oakes Holiday Centre and was homeschooled. Joshua and I started dating early into my freshman year (his sophomore year) in college and the rest is history. We were married in 2014 and started to build our family in 2018. We have Lillian (5), Liam (3), and Asher (5 months). Morton has been the best community to us. We have attended Summit Point Church since before we were married and truly love every aspect as we raise our family with our church and town community. I (Anna) work as a pediatric nurse one day a week which has been the perfect balance to also being a stay at home mom raising our babies. Joshua works as a professional civil engineer for Mohr and Kerr Engineering and Land Surveying. Our kids love to be active which means you will usually find us playing outside with neighbor friends, the park, or making obstacle courses in the basement!

What is your favorite part or what excites you most about Solid Rock?

What truly drew us to Solid Rock was the foundation and principles being built on Christian values. We know that what is taught in the home is the first priority, but it is reassuring to know that those values are being poured into our daughter as well. We also loved the shorter school week with Fridays off (yes, that is for all grades!) which gives extra time with family.

What is your child’s favorite part of school?

Lillian will always say “making friends” as her most favorite. She also mentions the curiosity corner in her class as well as PE. The kids also get to earn fruits of the spirit during class. She is always eager to tell us which she earned and how close the class is to their next goal (example: getting to wear pjs at school or extra recess)

What does your child want to be when she grows up?

She would love to be a teacher and a nurse. Lillian is truly a nurturer through and through. Whatever she ends up doing, I know God will use her in a way that involves caring for others.

What is your go-to family favorite dinner?

The first thing that popped into my head is pizza and “fu fries”(french fries) as Liam calls them. Anything where mom doesn’t have to cook and is easy clean up. We also do love a good breakfast for dinner. Typically pancakes with “chippies” (chocolate chips), bacon, and fruit.

What is a character trait you want to instill in your children?

First and foremost, integrity. My parents always told me “Remember Whose you are and Who you belong to”. Silly, I always thought that they were referring to them but it wasn’t until later in life I realized it was Christ. We want our children to remember Who loves them most and pray that they find their identity in Him. That His attributes and love will be evident in the way they go about life.

What would be a perfect family day for your family?

A perfect day for us would be any day with sunshine and water, preferably a pool. I think our happiest times are spent in a full day soaking up the sun and splashing around with each other. Our kids LOVE the water!

What is your advice to families that are on the fence about sending their child to Solid Rock?

Pray about it. Reach out to other Solid Rock families and don’t hesitate to ask all the questions! Pray about the values and outside influences you would like your kids to have. Our children spend so much time in school that the time there also impacts how they are molded for later in life. We really wanted to seek out excellent education where outside influence does not have a sway on what should be policy. Especially when those policies do not align with our values.

A big thanks to Anna for taking the time to answer our questions! If you have any questions about Solid Rock we would love if you would reach out to us directly or talk to any of our families!
