Walking Through Passion Week: A Simple Guide for Kids

Passion Week is a very special week in the Bible. It tells the story of the last days of Jesus’ life before He came back to life on Easter Sunday. If you are looking for ideas to incorporate more conversation at home with your children, below is how to make the week come alive! Each morning at the breakfast table, speak about the day’s events.

🌿 Palm Sunday – Jesus Comes to Town

Scripture: Matthew 21:1–11

Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. People were so excited! They waved palm branches and shouted, “Hosanna!” which means “Save us!”

They knew Jesus was special—but they didn’t fully understand how.

What it means for us:
Jesus is our King, and we can praise Him too!

Think about it:
How can you show Jesus you love Him?

Activity: Make your own palm branches using green construction paper to cut out long leaf shapes.

🍃 Monday – Jesus Cleans the Temple

Scripture: Matthew 21:12–13

Jesus went to the temple (God’s house) and saw people not treating it the right way. He wanted it to be a place for prayer, not for wrong things.

What it means for us:
God wants our hearts to be clean and full of love for Him.

Think about it:
What are some good things you can fill your heart with?

Activity: “Clean the Heart” craft

  • Draw a big heart on paper
  • Write or draw things that don’t belong (like anger, lying, selfishness)
  • Then “clean” it by covering them with stickers or drawing hearts over them

📖 Tuesday – Jesus Teaches

Scripture: Matthew 21–23

Jesus spent this day teaching people about God. He told the truth and helped people understand how to live.

What it means for us:
We can learn from Jesus and follow what He teaches.

Think about it:
What is one thing Jesus teaches us to do?

Activity: “Act It Out”

  • Pick simple teachings of Jesus (be kind, share, forgive)
  • Have kids act them out while others guess

🤝 Wednesday – A Sad Choice

Scripture: Matthew 26:14–16

One of Jesus’ friends, Judas, made a very sad choice and decided to betray Jesus.

What it means for us:
Even when people make wrong choices, Jesus still loves us.

Think about it:
How can you choose to do the right thing?

Activity: Make a “Good Choices” jar

  • Use a small cup or jar
  • Kids write or draw good choices on slips of paper
  • Add one each day

🍞 Thursday – The Last Supper

Scripture: Luke 22:14–20

Jesus had a special dinner with His friends. He shared bread and a cup and told them to remember Him. He also washed their feet to show kindness and love.

What it means for us:
Jesus teaches us to be kind and serve others.

Think about it:
Who can you help or be kind to today?

Activity: Simple snack reminder

  • Give kids crackers (bread) and juice
  • Explain how Jesus shared a special meal

✝️ Good Friday – Jesus Dies on the Cross

Scripture: Luke 23

This is a very sad day. Jesus died on the cross, even though He did nothing wrong. He did this because He loves us and wanted to take away our sins.

What it means for us:
Jesus loves us so much—more than we can imagine.

Think about it:
How does it make you feel to know Jesus loves you this much?

Activity: Make a cross

  • Use popsicle sticks, paper, or twigs
  • Tie together with string or glue

🌑 Saturday – Waiting

Scripture: Matthew 27:62–66

Jesus’ friends were very sad and didn’t understand what would happen next. Everything felt quiet.

What it means for us:
Sometimes we have to wait—but God always has a plan.

Think about it:
Is there something you are waiting and trusting God for?

Activity: “Waiting” time

  • Have a few minutes of quiet coloring or drawing
  • Ask kids to draw how they think Jesus’ friends felt

🌅 Easter Sunday – Jesus Is Alive!

Scripture: Matthew 28:1–10

Surprise! Jesus is alive! The tomb was empty, and He had risen from the dead!

What it means for us:
Because Jesus is alive, we have hope, joy, and new life.

Think about it:
How can you celebrate that Jesus is alive?

Activity: Empty Tomb Craft

  • Use a paper plate or cup to make a “tomb”
  • Show that it’s empty

Passion Week reminds us how much Jesus loves us. Every day shows us something special about Him. And the best part? Jesus loves YOU—and He is alive today!
