We are so excited to welcome Mrs. Haworth to Solid Rock! She will be teaching our very first class, and we couldn’t be more thankful God provided the perfect fit. We are blessed! We asked Mrs. Haworth a few questions; fun, serious, and everything in between.
What excites you about teaching at Solid Rock?
God’s presence is so evident in this school, and I see His hand in every piece that comes together. Coming from the public school system where God cannot be discussed, I feel so excited to teach at a school where it is encouraged to bring God into the classroom. Childhood years are so important for a person’s development, and I find it beautiful to think that the children who come to Solid Rock will develop a worldview that is centered around God. In every single subject, Solid Rock uses a curriculum that points what we are learning back to God. Students will get to spend their days learning all the standards a student needs to know, but they have the blessing of learning it all from God’s perspective. As a teacher, I also see so much social development happen during elementary school years. Kids are learning how to be a friend, how to respect authorities, and even how to talk to themselves. I am excited to come alongside students as these skills are developing, and point them to Christ as they decide how they want to treat the people around them. With God at the center of Solid Rock, I feel confident that He will move in some incredible ways. I am excited to see Him work in the hearts of each student at this school.
What is your favorite subject to teach?
I love each subject in different ways, but I most enjoy teaching whatever subject brings the most excitement to my students.
What experience do you have teaching?
During my college years, I had field hours teaching everything from bilingual kindergarten to 6th-grade social studies. I was also part of an Illinois teaching program called Golden Apple, and gained experience teaching summer school programs in Chicago and Charleston. I graduated from Olivet in 2020 and spent the past 2 years teaching 3rd grade at Olympia West Elementary.
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend?
I love spending time with my family on the weekends. Some of my favorite things to do with them are bonfires, playing board games, and discussing ridiculous “would you rather” questions.
What is your favorite drink? Favorite food?
I love Diet Pepsi and scotcheroos!
What is your favorite holiday and why?
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it has the best food, includes lots of quality time with family, and is a relaxed day that you can spend counting your blessings.
Where would your dream vacation spot be?
Being in nature and experiencing the beauty of God’s creation is one of my favorite things in the world, so I’ve always wanted to visit Lake Tahoe in California.
What is the main goal you have this year with your Kindergarteners?
It is my goal to help each student realize the importance of pursuing growth, and assist each student in obtaining it. Whether it be in academics, social interactions, or knowledge of our Savior, I long to help each student continue to grow to their fullest potential. And more importantly, I long to see the Lord grow hearts closer to Him this year.
We hope everyone enjoyed getting to know Mrs. Haworth. We know you all will grow to love her like we do!
