Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third grades are the fundamental building blocks to a successful educational career. Here’s some reasons why:
1. Love for learning: At Solid Rock we know the importance of creating a safe, fun, natural learning environment. Students that love learning in the early years will continue to be learners in the future. Our curriculum makes learning more natural by using books in the classroom, songs, nature, and hands-on activities!
2. Literacy building blocks: At Solid Rock we believe in a healthy balance of phonics and grade appropriate sight words. Phonics helps students decode multisyllabic words and sight words help them read the common English language words. Both are essential to the literacy learner. In the early years of school, we are also able to detect common literacy challenges students may have as well like dyslexia, dysgraphia, or any visual/auditory processing conditions. If these challenges are detected and corrected in early years, the student will be better off in the future!
3. Foundational math/problem solving skills: Math was the 2nd favorite subject of the Kindergarten class last year (only second because recess came in first haha!). Our math curriculum in Kindergarten focuses on math foundational skills: adding and subtracting. By the end of the year the students are learning math strategies to solve problems. Problem solving in math is crucial for higher-level math!
These may seem like small things, but they have important effects on the rest of the student’s educational career. The love for learning, literacy building blocks, and math foundational skills are crucial to a successful beginning!
