What do Teachers do all Summer?

A teacher’s job is never finished when the students leave for summer break!  Our teachers have been working diligently through the summer on various things: curriculum master plans, learning our new Bible curriculum (stay tuned for another blog on this!), learning how to better the education for our students, and doing more Professional development hours on their own time.

Our team has met three days of the summer and have 2 more meetings planned before school starts in September. They have also been in and out of the building numerous times working on next year’s plans! Our Solid Rock team meetings usually last 5 hours but could easily last more. We have great conversations and are so excited to implement some of the new things we are learning from each other. At each meeting, I have each teacher share something with the team that they do really well in their classroom and are passionate about.

At this last meeting, Mrs. Haworth shared how she implemented reading centers. Mrs. Welch shared how she does unit studies with her class. Mrs. Mathis shared how she teaches the writing method, starting with brainstorming all the way to publishing. It was so informative and I know each of the teachers had some great take aways. We gave Ms. LaDage a break this last meeting, but we can’t wait to learn from her soon!

We also discuss more topics together like: parent communication, behavior management, personal goals for this school year, and this year’s whole school field trips!

It has been wonderful getting to know each of these teachers and their hearts’ to serve the Lord, our school, and our students!
