We are so excited to announce the NEW TEACHER for our combined 2nd and 3rd grade class that will begin this Fall: Mrs. Jordin Mathis! We hope you can get to know her and love her as much as we do!

What excites you about teaching at Solid Rock?
What excites me about teaching at Solid Rock is the faith-based education and the small class sizes! I think we are going to be able to grow as learners and little people SO MUCH. I love the small community feel and the more traditional outlook on education.

What is your favorite subject to teach?
I love to teach reading!! Every life lesson can be found in a book and all books are windows and doors to the future. Some of my favorite books are children’s books: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, The Eyes that Kiss in The Corner, Because of Winn Dixie, and so many more. The best book of all is the Bible and we will be able to read it as a class!

What experience do you have teaching?
I have been teaching for 10 years, which is hard to believe. Most of my experience comes from District 108 in Pekin. Jefferson has been my home school for 9 years, and all years have been spent in third grade. It’s my favorite age group.

What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend? 
Most weekends I’m playing outside with my almost 2-year-old, Elias! He loves chalk, toys, and the water table. We love walks to the Pumpkin Park and to explore all the things. Our favorite family activity with all 6 of us is hiking.

What would be your dream vacation spot?
My dream vacation would be some where tropical with sandy beaches and clear blue water. I love sight seeing, relaxing, and doing all the touristy things.

What is your main goal with the Second and Third graders next year?
My goal is to have the best year ever with them! 2nd/3rd grade should be fun: hands-on and exploration of art, music, and nature. We are going to become a classroom family who love each other and who love Jesus! I can’t wait!
